We Are Risen

We are Risen Church Westside, a church in Santa Monica that follows Jesus Christ as Lord and joins God in the work he is doing in our world today. We do this by loving God, loving others, and serving Los Angeles and the world.

Our Vision
We are a church: a community of people God has chosen and preserved for Himself, who love, follow, learn from, and worship God together. God sends us out to proclaim the gospel and embody Christ’s coming kingdom by the quality of our life together and our love for one another.

The gospel, or the good news, is the message of the Bible that God is redeeming His fallen creation through the coming of His kingdom in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

We believe that by bringing the good news to Los Angeles we can most effectively reach our culture, our country, and our world. Serving in LA also provides us with a unique opportunity to love and serve the next generation, the unreached, cultural influencers, and the poor.

Simply put: we are a church that brings the good news to our influential city.
Risen is committed to unity, liberty, and love in Jesus Christ.
What We Believe
  • 01
We seek unity in essential beliefs.
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called - one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."

    Ephesians 4:2-6

We value this scripture and seek to practice it at Risen Church Westside.
  • 02
    We value liberty
    in non-essential beliefs.
“Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.” 1 Timothy 1:5 The Message
  • 03
We pursue love in all things.
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

    John 13:34-35

"If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have a faith that can move mountains but have not love, I am nothing."

    1 Corinthians 13:2

“The whole point of what we’re urging is simply love—love uncontaminated by self-interest and counterfeit faith, a life open to God.”

    1 Timothy 1:5 Message

Our Essential Beliefs
  • There is one God, eternally existing in three co-equal Persons, namely the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    Romans 8; Ephesians 1:13-14

  • God, out of love for His children, sent His son Jesus Christ to die for our sins, and to rise from the dead.

    1 Corinthians 15:1-8

  • Salvation is a free gift of God. The death of Christ on the cross is the only sufficient payment for our sins. All have sinned, but all can be saved. This salvation is available for any who put their trust in Christ as Savior and follow Him as Lord.

    Romans 3:23, 6:23; John 3:16

  • Those trusting Christ should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized.

    Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38

  • The church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit to continue the task of reaching the lost and discipling the saved, helping them become fully devoted followers of Christ.

    Ephesians 4:1-16

  • Christ will one day return and reign forever.

    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

  • When we die, we will either be separated from God by sin or united with Him eternally through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

    John 3:16; John 14:1-3; Revelation 20:10,15

  • The Bible is the inspired word of God and is the final authority in life and doctrine.

    2 Timothy 3:16
