The ninth and last fruit of the Spirit is self control. Self control most simply put means learning the skill how of saying yes to all that is good, right, and best; and learning how to say no to what isn’t.

Gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit, and yet there are so many misunderstandings around what gentleness actually is. What does it look like to have the kind of humility necessary for us to be gentle with one another?

We live in a world filled with unfaithfulness. What does it mean for God to be faithful and how does God's faithfulness enable us to remain loyal to those we’ve committed to?

God’s goodness is found in the fact that He is right and just, steadfast and faithful, in His love for us. This is true in the large scope of scripture, beginning to end. It is true in the “small” scope of each of our lives. We live His goodness out in our lives in many ways, but perhaps principally by readily forgiving one another and sticking with each other through thick or thin.

The larger context of the letter Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia is a strong exhortation to hang onto the freedom we have in Christ. The joy the Holy Spirit produces in our lives is nothing less than the joy that is realized from abiding in the love the Father and the Son share.  It's this one true love that satisfies our deep longing for a life that is content, satisfied, and meaningful.  A joy found in the God who's love transcends all the times and circumstances of our lives.

The Spirit of Christ is the gift God pours into us in order that we might know and experience two things:  that he is with us always, and that he is working to conform us to the image of Jesus.  The work of the Spirit, according to Gal. 5:22-23, is to produce in us those things that are right, true, good, and beautiful.

Galatians 5:22-23, Romans 5:5, and John 15:8-11
